2018 - A Year In Review

February 3rd, 2019

My 2018 was filled with rewarding work and life events. The biggest news of course is personal, and while I typically keep these posts limited to strictly professional news, the birth of my son Elliot Vincent Gould gets special exception. Elliot’s a happy baby boy and grows with every day. His long legs suggest he might inherit my height and he’s outgrowing his baby clothes at a record pace. Here he is at one month old.

On the professional side I continue to be a part of the editorial crew at Skywalker Sound where I get to work on a broad range of exciting projects alongside supremely talented coworkers. In 2018 I worked in multiple roles including Foley Editor, Sound Editor, Music Editor and Supervising Assistant across shows including “Black Panther”, “A Wrinkle In Time”, “What They Had”, “Next Gen”, “The Cold Blue”, season 2 of “MARS”, “Rewind”, “IO”, “Juanita”, “Imprisoned”, “Haunt” and “Triple Frontier”.

I’m now in my fifth year at “The Ranch” and I hope to look forward to many more.

In addition to all that I’m proud to say I got to play the role of Supervising Sound Editor on a feature entitled “Colewell” which previously came to Skywalker as part of the Sundance Music & Sound Lab. I’ll say more in a separate post but it was certainly the professional highlight of the year and I’m very proud of what my crew accomplished. Here’s a photo of myself with re-recording mixer Pete Horner, Director Tom Quinn and Composer Dara Taylor during our final mix.

In addition to my work for Skywalker Sound, I’ve continued to do freelance work, both in music and sound for a range of projects which include an original score for the short film “Madge and Marsi”, Foley editing for the web series “Golden Revenge”, additional sound design for Penrose’s VR title “Arden’s Wake” and music and sound design for another unannounced title of theirs.

I’ll end on a sad note which is to say that after many years, the site DesigningSound.org has gone into hibernation. I wrote my first article for the site in 2013 and subsequently joined as an editor during which time I contributed articles, interviews and guest pieces alongside a wonderful team of kind and generous individuals who donated their time to the greater sound community by providing a valued source of information freely, without even advertisements! While no new content will be published, I’m glad to say the site will remain online for the time being. You can find a list of my contributions from over the year on the speaking page of this site.

Well that’s all I’ve got to say about 2018. 2019 is already off to a great start and I can’t wait to share what I get up to in about a year’s time. Till then, keep in touch and take care.
